Why FamilyDose has no sign-up

By Satheesh Mankulam, September 2026

Most apps ask for an email address before they do anything useful. FamilyDose doesn't, and that was one of the first decisions made about it.

A medicine list says a lot

The medicines a family takes can reveal a diagnosis, a pregnancy, a child's condition or a parent's decline. That's information people hesitate to share even with relatives. An app that asks for it should hold it as carefully as possible.

The safest place for that information is the phone already in your hand. So FamilyDose stores everything locally: medicine names, doses, schedules, dose history, family members and photos. There is no server to receive it, which means there is nothing to leak, sell or lose in a breach.

No account means no waiting

Medicine reminders are often set up at a stressful moment: after a doctor's visit, at a pharmacy counter, or when a parent comes home from hospital. Creating an account, confirming an email and choosing a password all stand between that moment and the first reminder. Without them, you can open the app and add a medicine straight away.

Offline by design

Reminders shouldn't depend on mobile data or Wi-Fi. Because nothing needs to sync, every FamilyDose feature works offline, from the Dashboard to the Organiser's expiry alerts.

What you give up, and how it's handled

Keeping data on one device has a trade-off: if you change phones or uninstall the app, the data doesn't follow you automatically. FamilyDose handles this with a backup you control. Export Data saves a file on your phone, and Import Data restores it on any device. The app also warns you to export before clearing data.

For extra protection on a shared phone, you can turn on a 4-digit PIN lock.

The result

FamilyDose asks you for nothing except the medicines you want to remember. Everything else stays with you. Read the full privacy policy, or get FamilyDose on Google Play.
